Today, the 4th of July, is a day we as Americans celebrate the birth of not just our nation, but our free nation. 238 years ago, our forefathers signed a document known as the Declaration of Independence. With this document,  America separated itself from the tyranny of England and the groundwork was laid for the Constitution, giving us the freedom and rights we as citizens enjoy today.

So what are some ways to celebrate Independence Day? If you live in or near the Chapel Hill or Durham areas, we've got some ideas for you...

Kenan Memorial Stadium, Chapel Hill

When it comes to celebrating the birth of our nation, Chapel Hill does it right. Rated as one of the top ten 4th of July celebrations in America by Travel & Leisure Magazine, Chapel Hill's free family-friendly festivities take place in the Kenan Memorial football stadium where the gates open at 7:00 pm. Enjoy a multitude of activities for the whole family, including a watermelon eating contest hosted by DSI Comedy. Winners will receive two tickets to a DSI Comedy show, and the grand prize tickets are to a choice UNC football game! Live music will be performed by Bull City Syndicate (prepare to be blown away), and finish the day with a bang at 9:30 with FIREWORKS. ~Be one of the first 10,000 to arrive and you'll get a free glow necklace~

West Point on the Eno, Durham

Exercise your right to eat, drink and be merry at the 35th Annual Festival for the Eno today and tomorrow from 10:00 am to 6:00 pm. Not only will these two days be full of music, there will also be a beer garden sponsored by Sweetwater Brewing Company! Tickets are $20 for one day, and a two-day pass is $30. For more details on pricing and music lineup visit www.enoriver.org/festival

Durham Bulls Stadium, Downtown Durham

Take me out to the ballgame! Enjoy the great American pastime, baseball, at the Durham Bulls Stadium to watch the Collegiate National Team's two-game exhibition series against Chinese Taipei at 6:05 pm. The game will be followed by the City of Durham's spectacular 4th of July Fireworks show. Go here for tickets!

We hope we've given you some great ideas for celebrating Independence Day in the Triangle. Call on us if you'd like to know more about the area!
